Start your holiday shopping right by supporting small, local businesses at the Village on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday, held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, was first observed in Roslindale Village, Massachusets on November 27, 2010. Launched by American Express, the holiday celebrates local shops, restaurants, and services and the impact they bring to communities nationwide.
According to money.usnews.com, “48 percent of the money spent on purchases at a local independent businesses is re-circulated locally, but less than 14 percent of purchases at chain stores stay within the community.”
To help shoppers locate small businesses in their area, American Express created an interactive map that allows users to search by business name, ZIP code, or type of services.
